The Friends of the Maud Marks Library will hold their next book sale on Saturday, July 28 at 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. There is a large selection of hardback fiction and nonfiction, as well as children’s books and paperbacks. All items sell for rock bottom prices.family film festivalBring the whole family out to our family film festival this summer. Every Friday (July 6th, July 13th, July 20th, July 27th) at 1 PM, we will be showing a different mystery film complete with popcorn. This month, on July 6, Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help Dr. Hank Pym pull off a heist that will save the world. On July 13, Dracula goes into overprotective mode when a human boy falls for his teenaged daughter. On July 20, Dracula tries to prevent his grandson from leaving the monster world. Finally, on July 27, while searching for honey, a cuddly bear and his friends embark on an adventure to find a missing tail and rescue their other friend from a monster. Makey Makey Kits
Libraries Rock! And So Do Makey Makey Kits. The Maud Marks Library is thrilled to announce we now have Makey Makey kits! What are Makey Makey kits? They are kits full of circuits and electronics we can use to make things. We will be using them three times during the month of July. July 13th, July 24th, and July 25th. On Friday, July 13 the whole family is invited to help us make controllers for a Dance, Dance compLetition. Then on Tuesday, July 24 at 1 PM elementary age kids are invited to use the Makey Makey kits to bring our drawings to life. Finally, on Wednesday, July 25 we will be using them during Pre-School Storytime to make noises and interact with the stories Ms. Julie will be reading. Join us as we delve into the world of Makers with our new Makey Makey kits!
elementary Book Club
The Maud Marks Library will once again be hosting a book club this year for children ages 7-10. Join us for activities and discussions on Wednesday, July 11 at 3 PM as we read and talk about The Enormous Egg by Oliver Butterworth. Then on Wednesday, July 25 at 3 PM, we will read and talk about The Cricket in Time Square by George Selden. Books will be available for pick up on July 1.Teen Book ClubRead one more book this summer. Teens are invited to join us on Thursday, July 19 at 3 p.m. as we discuss the book This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab. If you are interested in joining us, extra copies of the book are available at the checkout desk.
Teens and tweens are invited to join us for Chess Wars! Join us every Tuesday, June 5- July 31 at 4:45 PM as we battle it out on the chessboard. Come learn basic strategies and techniques to up your chess game so you too can play out of this world.
Did you know that the Katy area has its very own MakerSpace? We will be learning all about this special place for creators and inventors at the library on Tuesday, July 10 at 7 PM. Harry Krueger will be here to introduce us to Katy MakerSpace and all you can do there. Makers of all ages and disciplines are encouraged to join us as we learn everything our new MakerSpace has to offer.
Green Thumb Gardening Series
Master Gardeners of Harris County brings their Green Thumb series to the library once a month where they discuss various topics unique to gardening in the Houston area. This month, on July 21 at 10:30 AM, learn all about raised beds, drip irrigation, and rain barrels. Seating is extremely limited for this class.
Demystifying Long-Term Care Insurance
Senior citizens and their family members are invited to join us for a new series at the Maud Marks Library. Every 3rd Friday of the month, experts will be here to discuss various topics pertinent to senior living. On July 20 at 10 AM, we will be discussing long-term care insurance. Learn about the types of plans available, what they cover, affordability, and more. Come discover what kind of life is best for you or your loved one.
Color Me Relaxed
What is the newest way for adults to relax and have a good time? Coloring! The Maud Marks Library now has an adult coloring hour on the 4th Tuesday of every month. Join us on Tuesday, July 24 at 2 PM as we color, chat, have a snack, and listen to relaxing music. We will provide plenty of pages for coloring and colored pencils, although, you are more than welcome to bring your own.
on Monday, July 30 at 7 PM as Ken Thies from the Houston Geological Society brings his collection of local fossils to the Maud Marks Library. Learn how fossils tell a story in the rocks but also about the local animals that were right here some 20,000 years ago. Discover which animals called the Katy Prairie home long before people showed up.
Microsoft Word Class
Are you interested in getting more out of your Microsoft Word program? On Tuesday, July 3 at 1 PM, the Maud Marks Library will be hosting a basic class on Microsoft Word. Can’t come then? Don’t worry, this class will repeat itself on Tuesday, July 31 at 7 PM. Basic keyboard and mouse skills are required. Seating is extremely limited for these classes. Classes fill up quickly, so don’t delay.
Do you have a computer question we just can’t answer during our regular classes? Maud Marks wants to help you with that. Join us on Friday's July 6, 13, 20, & 27 at 2-3 PM in our computer lab. Come with all your computer questions and have one of our computer experts answer them for you! This month’s dates are.
E-Books: Hands on Help
Do you have an e-Device for books or audios and have questions? Did you know Harris County has hundreds of e-books and e-audios that can be checked out through our various databases? Never buy an e-book again. Instead, come to the library on Saturday, July 7 at 10 AM to learn how to download to your device. Just let us know which device you own when you call to register and don’t forget to bring it with you to the class.
On Tuesday, July 10 at 1 PM, you are invited to bring your iPhone and follow along as we show you how to make the most of your new phone! Learn how to operate your iPhone, explore some of the powerful built-in apps, and learn how to download additional apps, music, and more! Can’t come then? Don’t worry, this class will repeat itself on Saturday, July 28 at 1 PM.

On Tuesday, July 10 at 7 PM, we reveal the secrets of working with the Windows 10 operating system. Learn the ins and outs of this powerful new Windows system. This class is designed for new users of Windows 10. Seating for this class is extremely limited.

Are you going somewhere this summer? Your device might be your best friend. There are hundreds of apps out there to help you with your summer travels. You can track your airplane, keep all your itineraries organized, find deals in other cities, and more! Join us on Saturday, July 14 at 1 PM to learn about all the different apps out there that can make your summer vacation a breeze.
Cut the Cable
Come and discover how to bring more entertainment into your life using the internet! Join us on Tuesday, July 17 at 1 PM as we dive into Pandora, YouTube, Netflix and similar sites to give you a glimpse into streaming movies, TV shows, and music. This class is designed for advanced computer users.
Build Your Own Website
Have you always wanted your own website but have no clue where to begin? On Tuesday, July 17 at 7 PM, we will introduce you to Weebly and Wordpress, two very easy programs that can help you build your own website. Can’t come then? This class will repeat on Tuesday, July 31 at 1 PM. This class is designed for advanced computer users.
Maud Mark July Storytime
Storytime for preschool-aged children is held each Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. Stories, finger plays, and songs are featured. This is ideal for children ages 3 to 5, but all children and their caregivers are welcome.
Pat-a-Cake Club Infant Storytime
This program will meet each Tuesday morning at 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 am. This is an interactive program for children ages 0 to 12 months and their caregivers. Each session will last about 20 minutes, featuring nursery rhymes, songs, and finger plays.
Totally Toddler Storytime
Toddlers aged 18 to 36 months are invited to participate in our Totally Toddler Storytime, which is held on each Thursdays at 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Tickets are required for Toddler Storytime. Tickets are given to the first 30 toddlers the day of the event.
