Benefitting The Ballardhouse from Harvey
Katy’s largest wine and culinary festival is ready to pour for a purpose!
Benefitting Cinco Charities’ The Ballard House, Katy Sip n Stroll helps raise funds for The Ballard House restoration from Hurricane Harvey and future expansion. Currently, there are 24 guest suites with many still under renovation.
This signature bi-annual event offers more than 1,800 guests a chance to discover new wines, craft beer and culinary creations as they “sip n stroll” amid artisan vendors and live music in the Tuscan-style courtyard setting of the Villagio Town Center. With more than 150 wine selections and 30 different food tasting stations scattered throughout the courtyard and along “Kroger Avenue”, guests will enjoy an all-inclusive sampling experience. Tickets are available for

**culinary serving stations by participating restaurants

Guests will be treated to live music on three stages. And VIPs will enjoy premium wine and food selections as presented by Mercantil Bank.
Sip n Stroll benefits Cinco Charities’ The Ballard House. The facility had been forced to temporarily close its doors due to damage from Hurricane Harvey, making support from Sip n Stroll ticket sales and sponsorships more timely than ever. A portion of The Ballard House opened January 20th with other suites coming on line as renovation allows. All monies raised will directly fund care and services to guests undergoing treatment for serious medical conditions.
To date, Katy Sip n Stroll has raised more than $240,000 to support The Ballard House, which has surpassed more than 30,000 nights of free lodging and host to more than 8,000 guests coming from all over the world as of the end of September 2017.

Katy Community ‘Chip Clinic, a local non-profit, volunteer-run organization is pleased to announce its winter/spring schedule of upcoming events to serve the needs of Katy-area residents. The organization offers $10 microchipping for pets with FREE lifetime registration! What is a microchip? A microchip is a rice-sized transponder that is injected between a pet’s shoulder blades with a needle. When getting ‘chipped, most animals don’t notice any difference from when receiving yearly vaccinations. A microchip does NOT have a GPS locator on it, but as long as the account is kept up-to-date, its number will be linked to the pet owner’s contact information. The microchip account is easily accessible online, and pet owners can update as needed and even add pet’s photo and veterinarian info.
Saturday, 5/5 | 11am-2pm
KCCC at Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming – Richmond
9711 S. Mason Rd, Richmond, Texas
Pet owners do not need to live in the same town as these upcoming events to take advantage of this service, but PLEASE NOTE: cash only, and MUST bring rabies certification paperwork (not just the collar tag) - for volunteer and attendee safety. There is a limit of two pets per family, unless pre-approved. Cats should be in a secure carrier and dogs should be on a no-slip leash (please no retractable leashes).
Why is it so important to microchip your pets? Microchipping is a FREE CALL HOME FOR LIFE should your pet accidentally get out and be brought to a shelter or veterinarian’s office. Collars and tags can be removed or fall off, but a microchip goes wherever your pet does! In the State of Texas when a pet escapes its home, if brought to a shelter, after only three days it can be released for adoption (or worse). With more than 10 shelters in the Houston metropolitan region (pets don’t observe city limits or county lines!), finding a lost pet can suddenly become a full time job (posting signs, searching online, visiting shelters). Many times, the correct breed isn’t even entered into a shelter’s registration system upon intake, so making phone calls and asking if a specific breed was brought in, can’t guarantee an owner finds its pet. However, if a pet is microchipped, it will be scanned upon intake, and can often be back home within the hour! Microchipping your pet provides a direct link to contact information and expedites a joyful reunion.

By Kristy Smith
We walked in to Minuti Coffee (on Fry Road near I-10) on Friday morning ready for a cup of coffee to commiserate the bad weather and wet, and therefore unplayable, tennis courts. We were greeted warmly – as always – and the staff were patient with us as we hemmed and hawed over what we could drink that might lift our spirits. I went for a gingerbread latte, one of my seasonal favorites, and Gi had a drip coffee with almond milk. As we were waiting for our coffees to be prepared – they prepare each steamy mug of coffee individually, with care and proper technique – we noticed a poster promoting one of their baristas.
That’s when we met Abbigail, or Abbi, as she prefers to be called. Abbi is as vibrant and exuberant as she is poised and professional. Her energy lights up the room, and her passion for her talent shines through, even as she’s making our coffees. She’s a blend of hard work, determination and talent that is rare, but it is evident the moment you meet her.
Her employer, owner of Minuti Coffee, Artivan Motamedi, saw it when he met her, too. And when she told him about making the cut to compete at the International Model and Talent Association (IMTA) event in Los Angeles in January, Mr. Motamedi insisted that he and Minuti Coffee help her get there.
We enjoyed our coffee so much, and were so curious about Abbi, that we came back to Minuti a few days later to sit down with the store manager and learn more about what makes Minuti Coffee unique. According to the manager, at Minuti the emphasis is on providing a quality product and welcoming environment. Each time a customer enters they should feel like they are a world away, experiencing coffee as if they were in Modena, Italy – where Minuti’s coffee is roasted and imported from. The rich red walls and dark wood décor, along with tall tables and a relaxed yet lively atmosphere, help perpetuate this experience. Minuti Coffee also sells a selection of sandwiches, soups and salads, pastries, cakes and gelato. You can find t-shirts, bags of coffee and the most adorable little emoji cups for sale, as well as sodas and waters, smoothies, blended ice drinks, and in the evenings – wine and beer.
This is where it gets fun. Every other Thursday, Minuti Coffee on Fry Road is hosting a wine tasting event where they will showcase six of their wines (from Italy, France and Chile) and promote Abbi. Abbi will have her guitar and will sing and strum as patrons sample from the wine and snacks on offer.
Abbi is a classically trained pianist who can play instruments by ear. She picked up the guitar after a kind member of her church saw her musical potential and gifted her the instrument. She writes her own music and has been doing so since she was a child. From a young age it became obvious that Abbi had several talents, from music to acting to modeling to sports, and her parents helped support her choice to pursue her dreams of being an entertainer. At the IMTA event, a premier event in the industry, Abbi will compete in four of the five categories: acting, modeling, singing and song writing. She’s worked hard, and continues to do so, and it shows in her drive to compete and win.
If you’d like to hear Abbi perform, and help her get to Los Angeles, come check out the wine tastings being held at Minuti Coffee every other Thursday. The next one is November 2nd from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The cost is $5.00.
If you haven’t experienced Minuti Coffee yet, there are several locations in the greater Houston area to choose from. You don’t have to go far to get a great cup of coffee and a warm welcome.
